Hi. I’m Brenda Thompson, registered dietitian
and owner of Life Skills Nutrition. In this segment, I’m going to talk about FDA recommendations
of a two thousand and a twenty five hundred calorie diet on the food label. If you look
down here on the bottom of the food label, you will see that there are recommendations
based on a two thousand calorie and a twenty five hundred calorie diet. This portion on
the food label is not recommended by the FDA. It is basically used as guidelines for consumers.
This gives consumers an idea of the appropriate amount of nutrients that they should consume
if they are eating in these calorie ranges. However, we do want to try to decrease the
likelihood of obesity. So finding out about how many calories you need in your diet by
consulting your registered dietitian would probably be a more appropriate way to go when
looking at the different nutrients on the food label.
